ARIA EU Node —
Designed for EU Data Sovereignty
A planned ARIA node for European research data, designed so that processing can stay within the EU/EEA under GDPR. The node is not yet in production.
What Will the EU Node Do?
The planned EU node is intended to run ARIA Capsule workloads on EU/EEA infrastructure, so that regulated research data does not need to leave the EU. It is part of the ARIA platform developed by Sovereign Governance Systems Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales.
The founder, Dr Triantafyllos Paparountas, is a Greek (EU) citizen and a bioinformatics and AI governance specialist. How the node will be operated and governed — including the operating entity and the data controller and processor roles — will be documented before any production use.
EU/EEA Infrastructure
Designed to run on infrastructure located in the EU/EEA, so processing of regulated research data can stay within the EU.
EU-Citizen Founder
The founder holds Greek citizenship, which is relevant to emerging EU expectations on who controls sovereign data infrastructure.
Transfers by the Rules
Designed so that any transfer outside the EU/EEA would require a documented GDPR Chapter V transfer mechanism.
EU Regulatory Framework
These are the requirements the node is being designed against. No certification or conformity assessment is claimed.
International Transfers (Art. 44–49)
Processing is designed to stay in the EU/EEA. Any transfer to a third country would need a valid Chapter V mechanism, documented per transfer.
High-Risk AI Readiness
The ARIA Capsule architecture is being developed with EU AI Act obligations for high-risk AI systems in mind, such as technical documentation, logging and human oversight. No conformity assessment has been carried out.
Sovereign Operation
Designed with emerging EU cloud and AI sovereignty requirements in mind, including EU-citizen operational control. Formal certification schemes are not yet available, and none is claimed.
Powered by ARIA Capsule
ARIA Capsule is patent-pending technology (UK patent application GB2612045.1; US application 19/693,491). It combines cryptographic integrity, differential privacy and hardware attestation, so AI workloads stay auditable, tamper-evident and confined to their jurisdiction.
Capsule tiers T1–T3 are operational in the ARIA platform. Tier 4 hardware TEE support (AMD SEV-SNP, Intel TDX and hardened Intel SGX) has been hardware-validated on a pilot node; Arm CCA is not yet implemented. Production rollout to this node is targeted for Q4 2026.
